survival knives
The other day when I was talking to my sister on the phone, she told me the funniest story about her husband and his survival knives. Her husband has collected survival knives since high school. He's not an outdoor enthusiast or anything, but he attended military academy and has always enjoyed the look and feel of well-crafted survival knives. Of his collection of survival knives, there was one in particular that he prized most. My sister had given it to him for his birthday. It was small and simple, with a strong steel blade and plain black handle. He carried it with him everywhere and found a hundred mundane uses for it in the course of his daily activities. Well, about three months ago, he realized he couldn't find it and figured he had lost it at work. He's a warehouse manager for a major wine and spirits distributor, and he's always using it to open boxes and packages and the like. So, he spent three months mourning the loss of one of his favorite survival knives. Then last week my sister happened to be cleaning up their bedroom and decided to check under their mattress for anything that didn't belong there. Among a wealth of other items, she found her husband's knife. It must have fallen out of his pocket. It was the last place they would have looked for the knife! But the funniest thing is that they have a waterbed! To think of that knife just sitting there directly under their waterbed mattress definitely made me laugh. They were pretty lucky; the mattress wasn't even punctured. Her husband was thrilled to have one of his favorite survival knives back, and my sister vowed to clean up under the mattress more often!
