Brining Home Fire Wood with Buck Knives |

It may sound weird for all the city dwellers out there but there are still many people who turn to wood burning stoves to assist in heating a home. I’m sure all those people who have been finding and chopping wood for fireplace warmth in the past are doing it even more this year as everyone is trying to cut back on costs. It is amazing how much heat can come out of a wood burning stove and it’s free as long as there is trees nearby.
My mom used to have me go out to the side of our house and chop wood until the garage wood chest was full. Sometimes I would take buck knives out into our woods and cut off skinny branches for kindling. Between an ax and buck knives it is pretty easy to come out with firewood when you live next to a forest. It has been awhile since I chopped wood or sliced up branches with buck knives but the memories are still there. This is one of little benefits people near forests get to take advantage of. I miss it.
