I received the first of many buck knives from my dad when I was eight years old. After explaining to me what the various blades were for and showing me how to keep them sharp I was the proud owner of the first of many buck knives I have owned over the years. Most of my buck knives have been pen knives I can easily carry in my pants pocket but I did receive a larger buck knife from the company I worked for as a safety award. I carry this buck knife strapped to my belt when I go hunting. contrary to what many people may think, buck knives did not get their name from "buck" or male deer. This is the name of the family who began producing these fine knives in 1902 in El Cajon, California by the founder of the company Hoyt Buck. Over the past one hundred years buck knives have gained a reputation as well made knives and the company produces not only hunting knives but also survival knives and knives for many other uses.
